General
OUR MISSION
To honor God through the arts by cultivating God’s gifts and skills in every student, whether child or adult.
OUR STAFF
A group of dedicated professionals who believe that God has placed His creative Spirit in each of us. Our instructors desire to help every student discover and develop his or her artistic skills and encourage his or her continued walk of personal growth.
WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER YOU
Dance classes in Ballet, Tap, Pointe, Liturgical, Clogging, and Jazz; Rejoice Dance Ministry, Classes in Tae Kwon Do, Theatre, and Art; Private lessons in Guitar
Office Hours
The studio/office is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 4PM until 8:45PM.
Office Staff
The office is staffed entirely by volunteers who are eager to serve you. Please stop by or call when you have any questions or concerns. John and Deborah Cobb are the Founders/Directors of Arts Alive.
Arrival and Departures
Arts Alive has 2 doors; you may enter and exit from our Main Street door or from our Worth Street door on Mondays and Thursdays. All students should use our Worth Street door on Tuesdays to keep from interrupting Theatre classes (which meet in the gallery). Please have your child at the studio a few minutes early so that he is ready to begin class on time. Students should then be picked up promptly after their class is over. Parents are welcome to wait at the studio; however, we are not staffed to oversee unattended children.
Calendar of Events
You will receive an Arts Alive calendar when you register your child for classes. Please mark those dates on your family’s calendar so that you will be aware of recitals, performances, Parent Observation and other important dates.
Newsletter
At the beginning of each month we print a newsletter, which will be put in your Arts Alive mailbox. The newsletter is our primary way of communicating with our Arts Alive families, and is therefore parents’ most reliable way to stay informed of studio news. It is also available on our website.
Communication
For the first time, this year we are providing family mail boxes. Each family’s box will be mounted in our hall labeled clearly with your name. In an effort to ensure that parents receive all written communication from our studio, your monthly newsletter and any other necessary handouts will be distributed in your mail box, rather than during your child’s class. We encourage you as parents to check your mail box weekly to stay informed. It is your responsibility to collect all handouts from your mail box. For your convenience, we provide a telephone answering service at our studio to receive your calls anytime. If you call us, and no one is in the office to speak to you, please leave a message. We check our messages daily, and we will get back with you ASAP.
Theatre Costumes
Theatre students have a costume rental fee included in their monthly tuition. Theatre costumes remain the property of Arts Alive.
Dance Costumes
Dance students pay for their recital/ballet costumes as a part of their monthly tuition. Dance costumes are then owned by the students. Arts Alive orders dance costumes after Christmas in preparation for the end-of-year performances. In the spring, we display pictures of each class’s costumes on our hall bulletin board so that you can see what costume your child will wear in the recital/ballet. Costumes will be distributed to students in plenty of time for the performances.
Attendance
Please make every effort to have your student in class each week! Frequent absences create problems, not just for your child who has fallen behind, but for his teacher and classmates as well. We understand that there will be unavoidable circumstances when your child will have to miss class; those things happen in all of our families. When absence becomes necessary, thank you for calling our office before your child’s class time to let us know.
Commitment
For each child to learn commitment and perseverance, we believe that it is most important that he/she finish out the studio year. It is in this attitude of respect for our studio, for our instructors, and for our fellow classmates, we ask that you not “drop out.” If there is some problem with your child’s class, please come to our office to let us know, and we will make every effort to resolve the issue. We are committed to our Arts Alive families, and we thank you for your commitment to us as well.
Registration
A $20 registration fee is required at registration to hold your child’s place in a class. For each additional student in a family, the registration fee is $10. Registration is due before your child begins his first class.
Parades
Arts Alive students are encouraged to participate in the annual Burlington Christmas parade, but it is not required. Younger students will ride on our float with parent/staff chaperones. We welcome parent volunteers for this event. An Arts Alive shirt is required for all students, teachers, and parents who elect to be in the parade. Further information about ordering shirts and parade sign-up will be posted as the holiday season draws near.
“Stick To It” Cards
At the beginning of our studio year, each young student is given a “Stick To It” card to bring to class weekly. Our instructors add stickers to students’ cards as rewards for attendance, participation, and obedience.
Parent Observation
Twice a year we open our classes for parent observation, as noted on your Arts Alive Calendar. These dates are still regular classes and not performances. We encourage parents and siblings to come watch their student in class on these days. However, we ask that you make every effort to observe without distracting the students, so please keep younger siblings quiet.
Performances
We are a performing arts studio. All students, except private instruction, will participate in performances. We sponsor Theatre performances, a winter dance concert, and end-of-year art exhibits, Tae Kwon Do demonstration, and dance performances. All these dates are noted on your Arts Alive Calendar and on our website. Please mark your calendars at the beginning of the year so that you will not accidentally plan vacations, business trips, etc. on any of those special dates. Class time is used to prepare students to perform/demonstrate/exhibit. As these dates approach, we will provide you with more specific information. No flash or video is allowed during performances, but you are welcome to take pictures and film during rehearsals. A professional video will be offered for sale for all end-of-year dance and theatre productions.
Tuition Questions
What will it cost me to take classes?
Group classes start at $38.00 an hour and increase $4.50 in 15-minute increments. Tuition is calculated on an individual basis by the number of hours taken. Family discounts start at 3.25 hours. Private classes are $60.00 per month. Check with the office for more details concerning the schedule and tuition scale.
How often do I pay tuition?
Your tuition is to be paid monthly; however, you may pay in advance for tuition and fees. All payments are due by the 10th of each month. A late fee will automatically be added to payments received after the 10th day of the month. There will be a $25 charge for all returned checks.
What are my payment options?
We accept cash or check. You can mail your payment to us or drop it into the wooden payment box in the hall at Arts Alive. Please make checks payable to Arts Alive and include child’s name. Do not mail cash; cash should be placed in the envelope provided at the payment box. Then label the envelope with the amount enclosed and the child’s name.
What if my child misses his class due to holidays or sickness?
Your tuition is the same regardless of classes missed or the number of classes in a month. There is no reduction for missed classes.
What if classes are cancelled due to bad weather?
If we have to cancel classes on a certain day because of bad weather, we will put a message on the studio’s answering machine by 2PM. In case of inclement weather, please call to hear the message so that you will be informed. Anytime we cancel a class, we will schedule a make up class, and pass those dates and times on to you as soon as we know them.
What if my child must withdraw from his class?
Should withdrawal become necessary, a 2-week written notice is required from the parent. If we do not receive notice from you that your child is dropping his class, your tuition continues to accrue. Once you notify us of your withdrawal, payment for your 2-week notice plus any outstanding balances must be paid. If your child drops dance or theatre class within 3 months of end-of-year performance, you must also pay a $35 cancellation fee.
Dress Code
Arts Alive Fine Arts Studio desires to uphold a standard of excellence for Christ. In keeping with that vision, we ask that you dress modestly anytime you are at our studio.
